  1. LOOK: for places fire could start.  Identify and minimize potential hazards.  As my mother always said, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
  2. LISTEN: for the sound of the smoke alarm.  You could have only minute to escape a blaze safely.  Everyone in your home should know the best way to get outside and be sure to choose a meeting spot at a safe distance from the hoe or building.
  3. LEARN: two ways out of every room.  Always make sure doors and windows leading outside are free of clutter and obstructions.

Residential customers can recycle their extinguishers at the City Landfills. We are not affiliated with the San Diego City Recycling Program. Please contact the City Landfill for Hours, Directions, Etc. Leaving extinguishers unattended and unused may result in leakage of gases and other harmful chemicals over time.  Servicing extinguishers annually ensures the proper containment of chemicals at the workplace or in the home. It is important that these chemicals do not find their way back into ground water, streams, lakes or the ocean as many of the extinguishing agents are toxic or harmful to the environment.
